Glass Catfish


Fish Lais (Kryptopterus bicirrhis), is a freshwater fish are still a family with catfish (catfish, baung, catfish, etc.). Lais is a native fish distribution in Southeast Asia are concentrated in Thailand, Malaysia & Indonesia (Sumatra & Borneo). Perhaps because of that too, I rarely find these fish commonly sold on the island of Java.

In the west there, Lais better known as Ghost or Glass Catfish Catfish, because the color of the transparent body. Lais own scientific name (Kryptopterus) comes from ancient Greek: Kryptos ("hidden") + ptéryx ("fin"). This refers to the dorsal fins Laish are small or nonexistent.

Fish Lais has many types ranging from small (not large) up to the usual large Lais lured. Lais little that can not be large often called kryptopterus minor / glass catfish & often seen in the aquarium fish trade. Lais are animals that live in groups, so the tank is usually placed 10 fish in an aquarium.
